Also called Disthene, the name kyanite is derived from Greek word kyanos which means 'blue'. Prominently, kyanite is found in shades of blues & greens. Being a rare gem and also brittle in appearance. Kyanite is used mainly for earring, brooches & pendants. In chemical industries, it is used in manufacture of spark plugs & heat resistant ceramics. This shiny, translucent gemstone is known for its colour zones & variation in hardness. The associated zodiac signs are Aries, Taurus & Libra. Brittle in appearance and easy to damage kyanite is challenging to cut.
